Workshops

I can teach workshops or provide assistance for individuals, groups, classes or schools. As an emerging filmmaker (practicing since 2019 but taking breaks), I understand how challenging it can be for marginalized (BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, disabled, migrant or non-resident) emerging filmmakers or non-filmmakers to gain access to learning analogue film making because it was that way for me. I’m happy to offer my services in teaching workshops or coaching filmmaking.

What I offer:

-1-4 hour single workshops for groups or a series of workshops

-individual or group coaching for making experimental or analogue documentary films

-a background in 16mm experimental, analogue film making with a handheld Bolex

-an anti-oppressive, participatory approach with an interest in documentary and social practice ethics

-an emerging filmmaker perspective that maintains that I’m constantly learning and able to share on a level that strives to be more equal with my peers. I don’t know all the answers but I’m still able to make stuff!

-a respect and appreciation for diversity in abilities and learning styles as a neurodiverse artist

Topics:

-technical topics: how to load a Bolex with 16mm film and how to shoot it, in-camera special effects, handmade film loops and handmade film effects, how to splice and tape film (hand-editing), the analogue to digital process

-how to make an analogue film from concept to production to post-production to screenings and festivals

-exploring theory, motivations and intentions behind film making to deepen your storytelling

-exploring sensations/affect within film: how can we feel beyond sight and hearing?

-how BIPOC can use experimental, analogue film as an outlet to express and transgress expectations

-coaching/help/facilitation with filming intimate moments: filming family, friends and pets to remember them by

-weddings, elderly family or pets, dinner table interactions, portraits

-filming your beloved ones can act as a treasured piece of memory and/or even help to overcome grief
