Analogue Resources

Where to buy film:

Kodak: Search for Canada’s Kodak 2023 film catalogue online. They offer student discounts. Shipping is usually a flat rate of $20.

Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto: Lots of options for film, leader, tape, etc. Discounts for members.

Niagara Custom Film Lab: You can purchase film here too.

They may offer student discounts. “Handmade film” here means film with handmade effects applied to it ie. ink, taped-on materials, etc)

Experimental handmade analogue film things to learn*:

-Handmade effects to film (applying ink, nail polish, using chemicals, taping things on, etc)

-In-camera special effects

-Editing by hand using a splicer and tape

-Doing multiple exposures with a rewind crank

-Using a flatbed film editor like a Steenbeck 

-Animation

-Phytograms

-Eco-processing with caffeine and plants

-Optical printing

-Contact printing

-Handmade film emulsion

-Hand processing

-experimental effects during developing (like mordançage, chromaflex, monoflex)
